Despite Beach Being Close to Sewage, Plenty of People could be found on Beach and in the Water on Saturday

With temperatures near 80% there were plenty of people at Imperial Beach and in the water enjoying the warm weather despite the beach being closed due to Sewage Contaminated Water. On March 2nd the beach closures were expanded to include the Silver Strand. The contaminated water now stretches from the Mexican Board all the way north to the Silver Strand.

  • Closure: Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach, and Silver Strand
    Stations: The ocean shoreline from U.S. / Mexico border to the north end of the Silver Strand at Avenida Lunar, including Border Field State Park, Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, Imperial Beach, and Silver Strand shorelines
    Status Since: November 21, 2014
    Extended: February 27, 2015 to include Imperial Beach
    Extended: March 2, 2015 to Include Silver Strand up to Avenida Lunar
    Avoid water contact in the closure area due to sewage-contaminated runoff from the Tijuana River.
