Residents are in shock and in mourning after woman going through dumpster off Palm Ave behind the Silver Strand Shopping Mall next to a mobile park found a dead baby in a dumpster inside a bag of trash around 1:30 in the afternoon on Sunday. She immediately ran into a pizza shop and said there was an emergency and needed to make a call. The Imperial Beach Sheriff's Department immediately responded and started their investigation. They only confirmed at first that a dead baby was indeed found but didn't give out any more details at that time. They didn't release the age and sex until they had some time to do investigating.

Later in the evening it came out that it was a 3 week old girl and speculation started that it was the baby that was kidnapped from Long Beach where there had been 3 people (the baby's parents and uncle) were shot Saturday night and that it was the missing baby from the shooting scene in Long Beach. The father was treated and released from the hospital but the mother and uncle remain hospitalized.

Long Beach Police investigators left immediately for Imperial Beach upon being informed Sunday that a dead baby had been found. Later that evening it was confirmed that it was the missing baby girl from Long Beach, Eliza Delacruz.

Imperial Beach continued to gather all day at the site and in the evening they had a memorial going with candles and teddy bears and held a candlelight vigil for the baby. Monday morning people were still coming by occasionally and adding to the memorial started the night before.

No signs of violence were scene on the baby and an autopsy was scheduled for some time on Monday.
