Dear Editor of Dig IB,
I believe that the Public needs to know, this is the first election for Sweetwater School board, that the District has been divided into 5 areas. This gives local communities a change to elect to represent a small community area. Area 5, covers the attendance areas of Mar Vista, Southwest, and Montgomery High.
I want to be involved and bring ”Pride” back to Sweetwater District, by being on the Board representing Area 5. I will draw on my 35 successful years of experience as a teacher/admin for Sweetwater. The new Board needs to find the best leader for our District, insure transparency with their budget/financial accountability. I have the knowledge and motivation to set polices that will best serve our young people.
I’m an experienced public servant by leading many School Site Councils throughout the District. Plus have been appointed to the Design Review Board of Imperial Beach for 14 years. Plus, served on numerous volunteer community boards and know how to lead and work with others in a positive manor.
I have an Educational Doctorate in Admin, Degree’s in Math and Science, and 35+ years working in every area of the Sweetwater District. I have the experience of strong leadership skills, and have independence to move the District forward. I have been past President of a Rotary Club, a Kiwanis Club, on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Imperial Beach, and other Boards serving the community. My strengths are being able to listen to groups and work towards a positive solution.
Set the goals for a hiring a new superintend. The District needs a board that will work and provide equity for all, transparency and fiscal leadership, and be accountable to the community. We need to put our students first and not politics.
If elected to serve on the board, will work together to set a plan to listen to the needs of our school communities. I will question and ask for fiscal audit of District finances and spending procedures.
If elected, the Superintendent’s Goals are evaluated by the board. They need to be developed from our school communities needs for our students varied academic programs across the District. I believe there needs to be more community and advisory groups for input forming the Future Vision of our District. When the Vision is a ‘shared clear vision’, there is a much better change for all to reach it together.
Best Experience to Provide Leadership to Sweetwater Board
Thomas “Tom” Schaaf Ed.D
