Imperial Beach to get new "State of the Art" Library!

Oct 16, 2014 01:24PM ● Published by Paul Spear

A new state of the art library is coming to Imperial Beach. In a meeting held for the pubic Tuesday night and attend by Greg Cox who is County Supervisor for the First District, Mayor Janney, June Engle who runs the library and others responsible for the building and planning of the new Library, The new library was discussed as well as to handle the needs of existing users at the same time!

Right now the project is still in the Bid Phase which will be held in two parts. Every public project has to through a bid phase were they go out and get bids on the price of the project with the low bid that meets the requirements being awarded the contract. The two phases of bidding include "Design" and "Building".Completion is expected in early 2016.

The new Library will be approximately 12,000 square feet with the community rooms behind the library getting a major face lift.

One of the many exciting parts is that they are going to "Go Green". The library will be built with a system that produces the library's own electricity so there will be no need to pay an elect Bill!

However, there are still many unanswered questions that have caused concern for the groups that us the building behind the library. Right now it functions as the Senior Citizens Center and is used by other groups as well. Because the process is in such an early stage, all that could be done is promise that an alternative location will be found for these groups until the project is completed and that they are looking for a site to temporarily put the library while the old one is being torn down and the new library is being built! These concerns were taken extremely seriously and notes were taken so no one is left without a place to hold their events!
